LK Avalon
Poland
1989: Thomasz Pazdan, Janusz Pelc and Miroslaw Liminowicz founded Laboratorium Komputerowe Avalon (Avalon Computer Labs). They debuted with Pelc's ROBBO (1989), a puzzle game with arcade elements, the game was a great success. The following year's release of Robbo Konstruktor (Level construction utility) it gained cult status. Robbo has routinely been counted among the best and most popular Polish games of the 8-bit era with user created levels continuing up to this day. Avalon followed up their success with hit platformers Misja and Fred as well as another puzzle game: Lasermania (all in 1990). Lasermania was the last game developed in-house: from that point on the studio shifted focus to publishing and distribution, expanding their catalog with a number of titles from independent programmers such as Henryk Cygert's Saper (1991), Roland Pantola's trio of point and click adventure games: A.D.2044 (1991) Klatwa (the curse; 1992) and Wladcy ciemosci (Lords of Darkness, 1993) and a number of flip-screen maze platformers, including Rafal Wojcik's Adax (1992), Dariusz Zolna's Hans Kloss (1992) and it's follow up Spy Master (1993).
