On the first floor of an ordinary commercial building in Gütersloh downtown software history was written. Behind the front door with the inconspicuous Klingelschild arose among others the two role-playing and simulation classic "Amber Star" and "Airbus A 320". In the premises of the Thalion Software GmbH game software for Amiga, IBM and ATARI systems is produced.
In October 1988 the Thalion Software GmbH was founded by a few ST freaks. Back then, the games have been developed on the ATARI and then converted to the other systems. Over the years, however it is passed to develop the games on the Amiga and then implement on the other sytems. For this reason are the publication dates of the new Atari games always a few months behind those of Amiga releases.
From the outset Thalion endeavored in game programming, auszureizen each existing hardware of the user to the utmost. Programming has been set up so flexible that an example, existing Blitterchip, the respective storage capacity and the STE-sound capabilities were fully utilized. As other games still "silent" were, were digitized voice and sound effects during a Thalion-Game already standard. But also in terms of graphics, some showpieces were left off the stack: Not only the gentle and smooth scrolling during the Games, but also the colorful cover images (up to 512 colors) were very nice to look at. In spite of all the games not great sales were before 1992, according to information from Thalion. The breakthrough came in early 1992 with "Amber Star" and "Airbus A 320".

What's new?

The answer to this question will expect all games fans with voltage. Jurie Horneman, the programmer of the role play "Amber Star", is working hard on the second part of the Amber Star Trilogy. The sequel is called "Amber Moon" and promises in every respect an absolute hammer to be. The play area is three times larger than for "Amber Star", and to accommodate all games and graphics data disks are, depending on the system, between seven and nine be necessary. "Amber Moon" looks at first glance like its predecessor, but it has a much improved user interface. Among other things, this means that the once-researched and thus known places not need to be run again. In addition, up to eight Scores storable. In the graphic is resorted to the time-honored combination of 2D and 3D system. In buildings is switched to the 2D mode, landscapes, dungeons and battle scenes appear three-dimensional. The 3D part, however, was completely revised. The character figures can be moved freely through the landscape now, and all gaze positions are recalculated. There are no standard graphics used, and the camera position is changed depending on the size of the character figure. In the dungeons there are about 300 different zoom objects, and there were about 150 different wall, ceiling and floor textures used. If there is fight scenes, they will be displayed on the entire Bildschirrnbereich. Depending on the type of weapon used or the spell another graphic effect is used. Jurie Horneman promises "graphic without end". The graphics capabilities of each existing hardware can be fully utilized. This means in detail: until 68020 extensions, TTs and Falcons show the dungeons in their full graphic splendor. Unfortunately, the floors and ceilings of dungeons appear only one color on the other computers. Acoustically the whole work was accompanied with 31 different pieces of music. As of publication date of December 1993 provided.

Also in the simulation sector Thalion not idle. The flight simulator "Airbus A 320" will be further developed. Christian boys presented already in the programming of the extremely fast vector of "No Second Prize" and the conversion of the two Airbus versions his skills. When flying with the new "Airbus 1.2" to be displayed faithfully using its proven Vector airport buildings and mountain ranges.
