Big Five Software

Big Five Software (aka Big 5 Software) was an American video game developer of the 1980s founded by Bill Hogue and Jeff Konyu.

Bill Hogue started out with a Radio Shack TRS-80.
Ultimately it would be renamed the "Model 1" when later versions were released. Starting out in BASIC, Hogue learned assembly language and went onto making games.

"Meteor Mission" was created but never released. "Super Nova" is the game that really got the company started. Ads in computer magazines showed buddy Jeff Konyu playing the game. The orders started to flow in. Bill and Jeff appeared on ABC's Good Morning America in 1982 and were interviewed by David Hartman.

Most of their TRS-80 games are clones of popular arcade games of the time, such as Galaxy Invasion (Galaxian), Super Nova (Asteroids), Defense Command (Missile Command) and Meteor Mission (Lunar Rescue).

Miner 2049'er is probably the best known game Hogue ever made although its sequel - Bounty Bob Strikes Back - is the one that is the most valuable to collectors these days.
Released for the Atari 8-bit family in 1982 and widely ported to other systems.
Miner 2049er was remade by Magmic in 2007 for mobile devices.
